Walking in Washington or Spring has (maybe) arrived!
Yesterday was a gorgeous day. Just one of those perfect spring days. I went out for lunch and I didn't want to come back in. Patrick, my co-worker who went to lunch with me, did leave around 2:00. (I was incredibly jealous!) I left around 5:15, and I decided to walk home.
I live about 3 and a quarter miles away from my office. I have this thing where I feel like I need to live close enough to work to be able to walk home, in case I need to. It doesn't have to be a regular thing, just in case of emergencies. I know this is because when I lived in Paris in 1995 the metro was on strike, and there was no way for me to easily get to work or school. After September 11, when I had to walk about 5 miles to Katherine's house in bad shoes, I realized I also need to keep walking shoes in my office, so I'm always set to walk home.
Sometimes I don't walk all the way, I'll just start walking and then I'll take the bus the rest of the way. Sometimes I'll walk all the way. I try to take different routes each time so I can explore different streets. There's some great houses on my walks to and from work.
Yesterday I walked about halfway home, then I got hot, so I took the bus the rest of the way. I saw new flowers, sunshine, green leaves, and lots and lots of people out enjoying the weather. I'm glad I was able to spend at least a little time outside yesterday, because today it's grey and raining again.
