I run my own country
Well, it's an online country. But it's pretty cool. I wish I could move to my country!
The game is called NationStates, and it's based on a book called Jennifer Government by Max Berry. You set up your government by answering questions about your political beliefs, and then you govern your country by answering daily issue questions. Although lately I've been getting a lot of repeat issues... I wonder if I've already been through all the issues. You can join the UN, and vote on UN issues. My (real-life, not online) friend Martha is the UN delegate for our region. Martha is in fact the one who got me started on this game.
My country's name is Summitshire, and it's categorized as a left leaning college state. I'm not quite sure what that means, but I'm happy as long as it's left leaning. My civil rights are excellent, and my economy is good. The only things I don't like right now about my country are my political freedoms are listed as "some," and my taxes are way too high! Right now the taxes are at 83%. I'd like to get it back down to around 40%, but you know, my people need government services! My national animal is the koala, and for a while it was legal to eat them, too, but then they started going extinct so I had to put an end to the feasting. And despite the fact that I wish I were a princess, my country is a democracy, and titles of nobility are outlawed.
I also read Max Berry's book Jennifer Government. It was interesting, and kind of reminded me of another book I've read recently, Margaret Atwood's Oryx & Crake, especially in the beginning. The book wasn't really what I was expecting, but I'd recommend it to you.
I'll put a link to my country in the links column, if you want to read more about it or start playing the game yourself. I would put it in the text, but I don't know how to do that!
