Cherry Blossom Madness or Tourist Season Has Begun

My friends Sarah & Cap were here this weekend from New York. Sarah & Cap used to live in my neighborhood, Adams Morgan (but unfortunately not since I've lived there.) Sarah decided we should go see the cherry blossoms yesterday, despite the weather (it was cold and damp.) After lunch, we hopped on the metro. We had to change trains at metro center, which during the week is not really a big deal. On the weekends, though, it appears to be a different story. The platform was packed! No one seemed to know the rules! There are a few simple, simple rules to riding metro. 1. stand right, walk left. 2. let people exit before trying to enter the train.

We got off at the Smithsonian stop, and Sarah had to use the bathroom, so we popped into the Freer Gallery. It was crowded... I think all of America was in the women's room line. After about 30 minutes in the line, we emerged, and proceeded to be herded down to the Tidal Basin. We made it all the way around in our walk, but I'm sure I'm in a zillion stranger's pictures. I was nervous we were going to be pushed in by rowdy kids. It was lovely, though. The cherry blossoms always remind me of candy. Pink and white fluffy candy on trees.

We took a cab home.
