Adventures on the bus #432

Last night on my way home, there was an altercation on the bus. See, the bus was coming off of Dupont Circle, and sort of halfway on the circle and halfway on Connecticut Avenue. The bus driver couldn't complete the turn onto Connecticut, though, because a car was illegally stopped at the corner, and the bus didn't fit. He honks. She does nothing. He opens the bus door, and says, "You can't park there! The bus doesn't fit with your car there." She says, "I was just in a car accident! I need a minute!"

Amazing. I can understand being upset after being in a car accident, but what she was doing was inconveinencing not only the bus, but anyone else on the Circle. Cars couldn't turn onto Connecticut, because the bus was blocking the entrance, so it caused a back up around the entire circle. She didn't seem to care. It wasn't like her car was so damaged it wouldn't drive. In fact, it didn't look damaged to me at all.

The bus driver got out of the bus, and walked over to the car in front of her (a cab) and asked them to move. Once they moved, she pulled forward, and we went on our merry way. The bus driver said to the bus, "It's no wonder she was in a car accident, driving like that." and I tend to agree.

Also, I couldn't figure out who she was in the accident with. I thought it was the cab, but when the bus driver asked him to move, he took off, so I guess it wasn't him. She wasn't talking to anyone else. Maybe she had already gotten all the info she needed and was trying to compose herself? I'm all for people not driving if they're upset, but that corner was not the place to do that.

No kidding it sounds like she was in a spot that was going to get her in a second car accident! Compose yourself off the road woman! Never a boring day on the bus, aye?

That is why I heart the bus.

I can't believe she didn't get out of the way of the bus! If she did that here in Chicago she would then find out the hard way that this wasn't a good idea.

I was in a car accident last October on an expressway here in the Chicago area. I wasn't hurt bad (although my car was totaled) and I was lucky in a way because the lady who hit me (I was in the left lane at the time) pushed my car into the concrete wall which slowed my car down (and blew out all my tires too) as my car came to rest on the shoulder instead of the left lane of the expressway.

Wow that was like the longest and worst sentence ever! Anyway, the lady who hit me stayed in the center lane of the expressway instead of moving over and caused another chain reaction car accident between 5 other cars.

Mark, that accident sounds horrible. I hope no one was seriously injured!

Only I was injured and it wasn't serious. Thankfully I was alone and didn't have anyone in my car. When I hit the wall, I just banged my head on the window and top of the driver's door frame a few times. Other than a bad headache and whiplash, I was okay. I highly recommend side curtain airbags as if I had those I wouldn't have banged my head so much!!
