Stupid Cable
Over the past couple months, I've become addicted to an Australian tv show called McLeod's Daughters. It's a completely ridiculous, yet strangely compelling, drama about 2 sisters running a ranch. Saturday, when I went to set the VCR to tape the newest episode, I noticed the channel wasn't in the same spot. So I flipped around, and I couldn't find it. I checked online, only to discover that my cable company dropped the channel.
I called them on Monday, and they confirmed they had in fact dropped the channel from all cable packages. So switching to digital cable isn't going to help me get this show back. Then I thought maybe I could buy it on dvd, only it's only on region 4 dvd players, so it won't work on mine. I could I guess order the dvds, then pay to have them converted to region 1, but that seems super expensive. Especially considering I'd have to first pay to have them shipped from Australia.
For now, Erika says she can tape it for me. She has a different cable company, and she still gets the channel. I guess that is the best solution, although not ideal. Anyone else have any other suggestions? I could also quit watching the show, but I'm not too thrilled with that idea, either.

Man that is a raw deal, I would flip if one of my shows got taken away all because of the cable company! Good luck finding a solution!
It's possible the region code of the dvd drive on your computer can be changed to region 4 to view the dvds and then changed back to region 1 to view all of your other dvds. Most drives only allow you to change this setting about 5 times though before locking it. There is also software to get around this too.
To watch the DVDs on your television, there are also "regionless" dvd players which play both NTSC and PAL as well. They aren't fancy but they work. Most sell for $50 and up.
I'm sure they must have that show to watch on the internet somewhere too. If I find a website that does then I will let you know.
Stupid cable!!! My cable was out for over two months before AT&T finally fixed it. Someone kept breaking into the cable box outside my apartment building and stealing my decoder keys or whatever those were. I had to call every day to get credit for that day...what a pain!!
thanks Mark. I can change one of my dvd players to play PAL dvds. but it would still matter that it's region 4, right? (I am so confused about all this.)
I've also never watched a show online... I am so technologically slow, it appears!!
That is SUCH a bummer... I think there would be anarchy in our house if we lost BBC America.
