Mail Call

I love getting mail. I always have. When I was little, I used to ask my mom everyday if there was any mail for me. For a kid, I got a surprisingly large amount of mail. I had a pen pal named Stephanie who lived in Ohio. I was always mailing away for free samples of things. I got postcards from my grandparents and my papa when they traveled. On the days when I didn't have anything, my mom would always tell me, "it's just junk today." or, "it's just bills." I never believed her, and I always thought it would be cool to get as much mail as my parents seemed to.

Now that I have my own personal mailbox, there's mail in it everyday. I do most of my shopping online, so I get a lot of packages. And just because I ordered the item myself doesn't make getting the package any less exciting. I get dvds from Netflix, which is also fun. But yesterday, I had one of my mom's "it's just junk/bills" days. I had a bill from Tulane for a student loan. I had 2 companies asking me to consolidate my student loans. And I had a Pottery Barn catalogue.

Technically, I guess I have 7 different mailboxes I need to check daily. The regular mailbox, for postal mail. 3 voicemail boxes, and 3 email inboxes. But still, I think I'm happiest when I have a regular, old fashioned letter. Which is a rarity, I know, and I think that's what makes it all the more special.
