Laura Bush made me late for work

So, I was on the bus this morning, like usual, and reading Entertainment Weekly (the one with the Oscar race on the cover). The bus stops, and I don't really notice for a while that we didn't start up again. I finally look up a few minutes later, and see that there are police cars blocking our entrance to Connecticut Ave. As well as everyone else's. After sitting for about 10 minutes, I decide to get off the bus and hoof it to the metro. (which was only about 3 blocks, but still)

Walking down the street, I see cop cars everywhere, and low flying helicopters, too. I'm thinking it's something really bad, like you know, a shoot out or a terrorist attack. (Dupont not being the most likely place in the city for either of these two events, but whatever, anything's possible). I'm wondering about my safety walking down the street. And then I see them. Those silly 3 wheeled motorcycles. The big black Suburban. and I knew it was a motorcade. The only question was who?

The limo drives by, and I got a good glimpse in. It was Laura Bush. I'm assuming George W was on the other side of the car, but I couldn't see in that far. People were waiving and taking pictures. I was just amazed people had cameras in their bags on the way to work. I understand they are trying to protect the president and all that, but really. Do you need to hold up rush hour city traffic for more than 15 minutes to do so?
