New Friends

Last night I went to dinner & a movie with Alison, who is a fairly new friend. I met Alison through my friend Rebeccah. Alison is also a member of the film society, so I see her around quite a bit. This was the first time I'd hung out with Alison one on one, and I had a great time.

Making new friends gets harder as I get older. When I was in school, friend making was easy. There were always tons of people my age around, and it was pretty easy to find people I wanted to hang out with. College was especially good for this, since you lived with your friends, ate meals with your friends, and could always find someone to talk to.

I find that now, making new friends is kind of like dating. You have to sort of try out new people, and see if it's a fit. And it's not always easy to find time to do this, even if you want to. People are busy with their jobs and their families. I've been pretty lucky the past few years, and I've made a couple new friends who I feel will be around for a long time.
