Cinderella Man
Last night, Erika and I went to a screening of Cinderella Man. I wasn't expecting to really like this movie, but it was free, so there you go. I don't like boxing, and I don't especially like Russell Crowe or Renée Zellweger.
However, I did end up liking the movie. The story was quite touching. I had never heard of Russell Crowe's character, even though he was a real person, so I had no idea what the outcome would be. I was appropriately nervous at the end of the movie. I will say, it was a bit too much actual boxing for my taste. I seriously did not watch a good 3/4ths of the end fight scene.
People were clapping in the theatre during some of the fight scenes. I find that bizarre. It's a movie. It may feel like you're at an actual boxing match, but you're not. It's not even a live boxing match on tv. Then, they all clapped at the end of the movie. Also strange. I mean, if the director or an actor or someone was there, that's one thing. But just to clap? When no one involved with the movie can hear it? I don't get that.

Ooh I have been wanting to see this movie! I think Russell Crowe is a great actor and I am excited to see him tackle Braddock! That's awesome that you got to go to a free screening of it!
I think if you like Russell Crowe, and you're already excited for the movie, you will really like it.
I thought RC was good in A Beautiful Mind, too.
I have been to movies when people clapped at the end. Most notably the Lord of the Rings movies when I saw them the night they opened. I clapped too just because I liked the movie so much.
Russell Crowe is a great actor and I love boxing movies so I'm sure I will love this movie too. My favorite boxing movie was 'Raging Bull'. That was just awesome! I also like Renee Zellweger too despite the fact that she always has that look like she just sucked on a lemon.
Maybe that's why people were clapping, they liked the movie so much. Good theory. I myself have only clapped when the director or an actor was present at the screening.
Wow -- you don't like the theme or either actor and still liked it?! Now that's a rave review!
it's true, I don't like boxing movies, but the theme of this one was more a redemption story with boxing on the side. I guess that's why I liked it.
