A few of my least favorite things
There are so many things I love about New Orleans. So many reasons for me to move back here. Last night when I told my friend Katherine I am seriously considering a move, she was super excited, which made me feel great. Katherine just moved back to New Orleans over the summer, and she's doing very well here. She told me last night she feels "settled" here, which is good news, and really, helpful to me in my decision making process. I'd like to feel settled. In Washington, I feel like I'm on pause. I'd like to play again.
Back to the original point... while there are great things about New Orleans, there are some things here that I really dislike that cannot be avoided. Traffic. Traffic here is a nightmare. I know Washington has really bad traffic too, but I feel like it's worse here, because there just aren't that many different ways to go. Also, people all seem to drive everywhere. It's like the one person one car rule. No one carpools, no one takes the bus. I was also really upset last night for my cousin Candace. She was driving over to our house, and she almost hit a police car because she couldn't see around the corner (which is a serious problem in Uptown New Orleans -- trees and other cars often block your line of sight). The cop pulled her over and started yelling at her, and he made her cry. I mean, fine, she did something wrong. She admitted that. But is there a need to call her names? If he wanted to give her a ticket, he should have done that, but instead, he just made her feel horrible about herself.
