Como se dice let's boogie?
Realized I have no idea how to do that cool upside down Spanish question mark on my standard American keyboard. Rats.
Last night Alison and I went to see Dance Cuba: Dreams of Flight, which was playing at DC Film Fest. Now, you all know I love dance movies. This one was amazingly good. It's a documentary about how the Washington Ballet was invited to participate in a ballet festival in Havana. Watching the dancing probably would have been enough for me to think the movie was good. But, in addition, Septime Webre, the artistic director of the Washington Ballet, happens to be half Cuban, so the movie also focused on him re-connecting to his Cuban roots. Some of his siblings came along for the ride. (also, since they showed Septime pulling out of his driveway, I realized he lives right! near! me! It's always exciting to see your 'hood featured in a movie.) Anyway. They also featured Cuban ballet star Carlos Acosta, who was making his choregraphical (is that a word? spellcheck suggested "sharecropper") debut. And told the story of how the Ballet Nacional de Cuba was founded. I don't know if this movie will be released into theatres, or played in other film festivals, or released onto dvd, or what, but if you ever have a chance to see it, I'd highly recommend it.
In other news, work is getting more and more depressing. A friend, who shall remain nameless for the time being, is leaving soon. And I was blocked from instant messenger (we all were.) At least I still have the radio. Has anyone heard this Jack White/Loretta Lynn duet? It's an interesting combination of country and um, Jack White. I'm still deciding if I like it or not. But I DO like "Rock Lobster," which is on the radio right now.
