Movies and such

OK, I broke my own cardinal rule of movie watching this week. I watched a dubbed movie that wasn't animated. I watched Center Stage in French. I've seen this movie about 30 times, so it wasn't like I was missing out on an actor's nuance. Well, to be fair, the actors in this movie don't really have nuances. I just like the dancing. And I really need to practice my French before I leave for France. But doing this did reinforce my theory of dubbing + movie = bad. It's super annoying to see an actor's mouth forming different words than the ones they are saying. And the voices are always weird. And when it's a movie originally in English, the French version has some weird pronunciations of things like names. Jody Sawyer? The main character? Became Jo-Dee Sawy-EUR. (phonetically, of course)

oh my gosh, the final dance scene is like the best ever. The red shoes rock. I'm also quite fond of the scene where she goes to the non-ballet dance class.

along the same vein but not quite as good, Save the Last Dance is also a good guilty pleasure movie. And has the added benefit of being on tv a lot.
