I'm a Cinemaphile

Yesterday Erika & I went to see the movie The Dreamers. The movie itself was just OK, but I think Erika liked it more than I did. It takes place in Paris in 1968, and I thought it would have been more interesting if they had focused more on the 1968 revolution in Paris. Also, it left about a zillion questions unanswered.

In the movie, the three main characters call themselves cinemaphiles. They met at a rally to save a movie theatre. I think I am a cinemaphile. I love going to the movies, and while I go generally about once a week right now, I think I could up it to 3 or 4 times a week and not get burnt out. I don't know what it is about going to the movies -- yeah, it's escapism, obviously, but I think it's something else for me too. I'm not sure what. I like going to the movies alone just as much as I like going with other people. I'll see pretty much anything, but I don't like everything I see. The actual theatre is almost as important to me as the movie.

I watch a lot of movies on dvd at home, too, but it's never the same. At home, I watch a movie at the same time as doing something else, normally. I often watch movies at home in installments. Only in the theatre does a movie get my full, undivided attention.

I'm definitely going to one movie this weekend, maybe two. Anyone seen anything good lately they'd recommend?
