Architecture Tour

I've done a bit of touring lately of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture.

When I was in Phoenix, despite getting so sick and ending up in the emergency room, we still managed to go to Taliesin West, which is an architecture school. Very cool. It's in the middle of the desert, and I guess during the heat of the summer FLW and the whole school would pack up and go back to Taliesin in Wisconsin.

We had a fabulous tour guide, Dave. Which helped, because there were some super annoying people on the tour.

Last weekend Mandy and I went to see the Pope-Leighey House, which is a Usonian house in Alexandria, just outside of Washington.

Usonian houses were designed and built for the middle class. The idea is that everyone should be able to afford style and still be able to live comfortably. The house is quite small - 2 bedrooms, one bathroom, 1200 square feet. The living room is the biggest room of the house, because you are supposed to spend your time with the family, and not locked away in your bedroom.

I love love love this house. National Historic Trust, are you interested in selling??

That is such a cool house! I agree with the living space philosophy.
