It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas...

Look what I saw on my way to work this morning! That's right, Christmas decorations on the lampposts. Isn't it a wee bit early for this? What happened to the post-Thanksgiving rule?

Is anyone else noticing this in their hometowns? Is anyone else as disturbed by this as I am?

There have been decorations up where I live since Halloween. I've even been hearing Christmas music in stores. Anything to make that holiday shopping season last a little bit longer!

Mince pies and christmas cake start appearing in stores in late September here (usually after football grand final weekend - last weekend in Sep).
We don't have Thanksgiving, so the end of the Spring Racing Carnival (which wrapped up this week) is generally the point at which Christmas preparations start in earnest.

Over here on the other side of the pond, the Christmas decorations went up on the 1st of November. Some went up in October.

I came back from my Halloween trip to the US and was thrown head first into it all. No Thanksgiving for me! Which sucks. But Christmas is a HUGE deal here... people are out doing their shopping already!!

as an addendum to my earlier comment - the Christmas decorations went up in the lobby of the building where I work over the weekend - just six weeks until Christmas guys!

Since you have no choice but to get intot he Christmas spirit and since I know that you knit for charity - why don't you think about sending a hat or two to the Soaring Eagles Project (http://soaringeaglesproject.blogspot.com/). And, consider spreading the word to your knitting buddies too.
ps: I would be happy to de-stash so let me know if you are in need of any acrylic!
