No Time, No Time for Blogging!

Still working like a maniac. In the meantime, here is a meme I stole from Adrianne to keep you semi-entertained. I'm considering starting a photo blog dealing with the horrors of corporate catering. Let's see what's for dinner tonight!

Use the first letter of your name to find a word for each of the following:

Your Name - Genevieve
Four letter word - gasp
Boy name - Geoffrey
Girl name - Georgia
Occupation - Geologist
Color - Green
Beverage - Grape juice
Something found in a bathroom -
A Place -
Reason for being late -
Food -
Something you shout -

And, I'm even out of ideas for the rest... can anyone help?

Meme

From Bryony. I'm not tagging anyone but leave me a comment if you do it too so I can go read your answers!

1. What was I doing 10 years ago?

That would have been the fall of 1998. I had just started law school, and I was living in New Orleans. I think it was the only semester I sort of liked law school. I did live in a really great apartment, for only $500/month! It was big, had nice windows, hardwood floors, a screened-in porch, and a driveway.

2. What are 5 things on my to-do list today?

1. Call the tailor to see when my dress will be ready.
2. Talk to Ana. (done)
3. Call American Express about FedEx tracking number. (done)
4. Email replies from yesterday's emails.
5. Work at pro bono clinic.

3. What snacks do I enjoy?

Mostly sweet things, like chocolate. But I also like popcorn a lot. But normally my snacks are boring - today's morning snack (which I may skip, if I'm not hungry) is an apple and the afternoon snack is a yogurt.

4. Where are some places I've lived?

New Orleans, Washington, San Antonio, Paris, Brussels.

5. What things would I do if I were a billionaire?

Pay off my student loans. Do I have to think past that? Give to charity. Buy a nice house in Georgetown and hire a driver so I didn't have to worry about the lack of public transportation there, then buy carbon offsets for all the driving. Set up trust funds so that none of my sisters and cousins would have to pay for school with loans. Work only when I felt like it. (volunteer basis?) Travel more.

This is an interesting one that I found while blog surfing. Basically, you put in bold anything that applies to you, and then I'll include some of my own comments in italics.

Original source: The list is based on an exercise developed by Will Barratt, Meagan Cahill, Angie Carlen, Minnette Huck, Drew Lurker, Stacy Ploskonka at Illinois State University. The exercise developers ask that if you participate in this blog game, you acknowledge their copyright.
If you want to participate, please do the same.

Father went to college
Father finished college
Mother went to college
Mother finished college
Have any relative who is an attorney, physician, or professor - Can I count myself? Ok, no? My uncle is a dentist, and my sister is working on her PhD.
Were the same or higher class than your high school teachers - This is a really weird question that I'm not quite sure how to answer, other than, probably yes, and I never noticed this.
Had more than 50 books in your childhood home
Had more than 500 books in your childhood home
Were read children’s books by a parent - Yes. My dad loved to read to us. Although I am still scarred by having to listen to Good Night Moon every night, because my sister liked it so much.
Had lessons of any kind before you turned 18
Had more than two kinds of lessons before you turned 18 - piano, tennis, swimming, French... there were probably others but I can't think of them right now.
The people in the media who dress and talk like me are portrayed positively
Had a credit card with your name on it before you turned 18
Your parents (or a trust) paid for the majority of your college costs
Your parents (or a trust) paid for all of your college costs - As long as we're only counting college, not law school too.
Went to a private high school - I am a product of great public schools.
Went to summer camp - Girl Scout camp in the 6th grade.
Had a private tutor before you turned 18 - For one day, for precalculus. It was a disaster. I left in tears and my parents never made me go back.
Family vacations involved staying at hotels - Sometimes, especially if you count hotels while driving someplace else.
Your clothing was all bought new before you turned 18 - Yes, but only because I am the oldest. My poor little sister had to wear the same dress three times in a row, because my gran sent us matching dresses for holidays.
Your parents bought you a car that was not a hand-me-down from them - I had trouble learning to drive a manual transmission, so they bought an automatic. I can drive manual now!
There was original art in your house when you were a child
Had a phone in your room before you turned 18 - 12th Christmas present.
You and your family lived in a single family house - For as long as I remember. I think when I was born my parents lived in a duplex but we moved before I could remember that place.
Your parent(s) owned their own house or apartment before you left home
You had your own room as a child - Mostly. For a while Leslie & I shared a really huge room, and then I moved out into a room the size of a closet. (which didn't have a closet, ironically)
Participated in an SAT/ACT prep course
Had your own TV in your room in High School
Owned a mutual fund or IRA in High School or College
Flew anywhere on a commercial airline before you turned 16 - I think before I turned one even?
Went on a cruise with your family
Went on more than one cruise with your family
Your parents took you to museums and art galleries as you grew up
You were unaware of how much heating bills were for your family - Or any bill. Um, I still don't know how much my heating bill is... it's included in my rent.

I guess this meme is supposed to show that I had a privileged childhood. I did. Now that I'm paying my own bills, I see how much things cost. Kids are expensive!!

I was tagged by Malady *and* Nicole!

Here are the rules:

1. Each player starts with 7 random facts about themselves.
2. People who are tagged write a post with the same.
3. At the end of the post tag 7 people.

1. I am tying on a French keyboard right now. That means instead of the top row being QWERTY, it's AZERTY, among other differences. Once I get used to it, it's not bad, but until then, it sort of hurts my hands, since I touch-type. (note: I started this post over a week ago. I'm just getting around to finishing it now. I'm no longer on the AZERTY keyboard!)

2. I took ballet lessons when I was little, but I quit after one or two years. I think it was because our teacher's name was Mrs. Katz and she called us all her little kittens and I don't really like cats.

3. I also took ice skating lessons when I was little. I don't remember why I quit those. In any event, they didn't really work, as I still can't even skate backwards.

4. I seem to have lost my voice over the weekend. I've no idea where it went.

5. Embarrassing but true: I love the show Instant Star, on the N. Those Canadians, they know teen drama.

6. I don't like Diet Coke.

7. I have 8 first cousins. 7 on one side, 1 on the other. None of them are older than me.

Genevieve Needs Weird Stuff, Apparently

I am very bored today, so, 2 posts in one day!

Instructions: google your name and the word needs. Report the top 10 results. (though my #10 was the same as #1, so you're getting the top 11)

1. Genevieve needs her Fluffernutter fix everyday. (what is Fluffernutter?)
2. Genevieve needs to bow. (to someone in particular?)
3. Genevieve needs to move out of her apartment. (maybe before the bedroom ceiling falls in again?)
4. Genevieve needs some help with a fabulous silver frame resource. (not really)
5. Genevieve needs a good place to stay. (see: #3)
6. Genevieve needs an au pair for the summer. (Genevieve needs a baby before she needs an au pair)
7. Genevieve needs batteries. (Am I secretly a robot? I'll never tell!)
8. Genevieve needs a blog. (already got a few)
9. Genevieve needs a dope emcee. (this one is my favorite. YES. In fact, you are correct, google. I do need a dope emcee. To follow me around and play a soundtrack to my life. How awesome would that be.)
10. Genevieve needs input from the council. (I have a council? Where has their input been for the rest of the tough decisions?)

This Post is Brought to You by the Letter B

Nabbalicious did a meme yesterday where she listed ten things she loved starting with a particular letter. I asked her for a letter, too, and I got B. If you want to play, too, leave me a comment & I'll be glad to give you a letter.

Baldy is my favorite stuffed animal. He's a dog, dressed like a train conductor. I've had him since I was a baby. He no longer looks like a train conductor, nor does he have fur anymore. (Hence, my parents named him Baldy) I plucked it all out when I was little. If you've been to my house, you've met Baldy.

Bananas are good, but only the green ones, and not banana flavored stuff. Hum. So more accurately, I love green, slightly crunchy bananas, but I think that still counts as a b.

Braff, Zach is hilarious. And cute. And one of my favorite movies evah is Garden State.

Ben Lee. Well, anyone who reads my blog regularly knows I love Ben Lee. (Just count the number of posts where I mention going to a Ben Lee show, for a starter...)

Bruges, Belgium (does that count as two?). It's adorable. Possibly the cutest city in Europe. I also love that you're supposed to eat mussels in Belgium. I love mussels.

Books. I have always loved books. When I was little I even used to take them to bed with me. (and the mail. I mean, you never know when you might get bored and want to read junk mail. Even if you can't read yet.) I'm a fast reader and I generally get through at least a couple books a week.

(the) Beach, specifically, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. I love going to the beach, sitting on the sand, reading a book, napping, swimming, eating Grotto's pizza, which is actually pretty bad, or stopping for fried chicken just before the Bay Bridge on the way home. Of course, being the fair skinned princess that I am, I generally spend my time under the umbrella, lathered in SPF 45.

barney's, yeah, the store. I've never actually bought anything in there, because I can't afford to, but I do love looking at pretty pretty marc jacobs dresses.

Barney, the character on How I Met Your Mother, not the big purple dinosaur. Neil Patrick Harris makes this show. Barney is hilarious.

blowfish, not Hootie and the, but rather, the actual fish. My cousin does this awesome imitation of a blowfish. Ask me to try it for you sometime. I'm not as good, but you'll still be amused.

Holiday Meme

From Amy.

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Hot chocolate.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree? Wrapped but when I was little, not wrapped. Or, not all wrapped.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? Well, I prefer white lights. But my tree is this little two-footer I bought at CVS a few years ago. (yeah, it's fake... I live in a third floor walk up! Who wants to haul a tree up that.) Anyway, it's got fiber optic lights. I think you can change out the colored for white, but I decided if I'm going to have a tacky bought at the drug store tree, I want it to be as tacky as possible. So the colored lights stay.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? no. but I do have a creche. does that count for anything?

5. When do you put up your decorations? the first weekend in December. must do it this weekend.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Yorkshire pudding.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? waking up early to run downstairs & see what Santa brought.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? Santa is real! He lives in your heart. Just ask my mama.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We have a family party on Christmas Eve and everyone gets one present. We open those.

10. What kind of decorations are on your Christmas Tree? the same ones I've had since I was a baby. Most have my name on them. My favorite (which I don't hang on the tree, for fear it will fall & break) is a St Charles Ave streetcar painted red with a wreath on it and it says "Genevieve. 1979." I don't know where it came from!

11. Snow! Love it or Dread? I hate snow.

12. Can you ice skate? I even took lessons. But still, not very well.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Oh, I can't pick one!

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you? I love chosing presents for people!

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? I love my sister's buckeyes and Mrs. Sebastian's sugar cookies. Which reminds me to email her for the recipe for those puppies.

16 What is your favorite holiday tradition? I really like our Christmas dinner food.

17. What tops your tree? an angel

18. What is your favourite holiday book? I don't have one. but my favorite Christmas movie? Home Alone.

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? O Holy Night

20. Candy Canes! Yucky or Yummy? yucky. I don't like peppermint very much.

BookSwap Questionnaire

1. What is your favorite book of all time and why?
I find this question nearly impossible to answer! I don't think I have a favorite book of all time. The books I tend to read over and over tend to be books I loved from my childhood - Anne of Green Gables, A Proud Taste for Scarlet & Miniver, the Little House books, A String of Chances. The last book I loved was Jonathan Safran Foer's Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. Which I have recommended to a few people, and, well, everyone who reads this blog. No one seemed to love it like me!

2. What type of book do you most enjoy reading?
Fiction. If I read non-fiction, it's the kind that reads like fiction. I've been obsessed with the Outlander series (by Diana Gabaldon) lately. It started out with me thinking they were pure romance novels, and I picked one up based on a recommendation. I'm on #4 now, and I really love them... so much more than romance! I also still read YA books.

I don't like mysteries much.

I keep a fairly accurate list of what I've read lately on allconsuming.net. You can click on the link in my sidebar to see that.

3. What fictional character do you most resemble?
This is another really hard question. I have no idea.

4. What is your favorite type of sweet or chocolate?
Dark, slightly bitter chocolate. But pretty much anything with chocolate and without coconut. I don't care much for candy without chocolate.

5. What are your hobbies?
Traveling, knitting, movie watching

6. Do you collect anything?
No, not really.

7. What is your favorite color?
Pink

8. What is your favorite movie and why?
Again, I don't have just one. I love Some Kind of Wonderful, Garden State, Love Actually.

9. When is your birthday?
May 12

10. What is your favorite scent?
lavender. I don't like smells like vanilla unless there are baked goods involved.

11. Do you have any allergies?
Nothing that would matter for this exchange.

12. Do you have wishlist on Amazon or another site?
Yes, email me for the link. For some reason it doesn't post well.

13. What kind of music do you like? Are you MP3 compatible?
Mostly indie pop stuff... Ben Lee, Ben Kweller, Belle & Sebastian, & Aimee Mann are particular favorites. My amazon wishlist is a pretty good gauge of this. Also, there are some albums listed on my allconsuming site. Yes, MP3 compatible... I have an iPod.
